PRELIMINARY TASK- AUDIENCE RESPONSES

 AUDIENCES RESPONSES- PRELIMINARY TASK

After watching my documentary with other media students and my Media Studies teacher, I received their feedback which I can use to improve my next project.

Overall, I received many different opinions, some saying that they liked the text and screenshots on the screen and others who didn't. Seeing as, I myself, in my own reflection of my product in my previous blog thought that there was too much talking I have decided that I won't be saying as much information in my next project. This is also because it can be seen more as a lecture than as entertaining as I learnt from my audience. I have to make sure that I show more and tell less next time. Documentaries have to be entertaining to watch so it is essential that I don't bore my audience or lose their attention.

Other feedback I received was that my camera quality wasn't good at times (during the interview with myself) because I filmed on my phone. However the mise-en-scène that I picked didn't help to improve it. The room was too dark, and some even suggested that I do something such as walk in a corridor instead of talking straight to the camera for the interview.

Furthermore, the positive feedback was targeting my editing; most of them praised me for my shots and transitions I created. The extract when I talk more about my own experience and less about facts seem to be the most interesting and fun to watch.

In conclusion, in my next product when writing my script for a voiceover (if any), I should make sure that there isn't too much information but that there is enough so that the audience understand the concept. Depending on the topic I choose, I might not need to have any facts or statistics at all seeing as it is a five minute extract from a television documentary series.
