 THE LUMIÈRES BROTHERS- EARLY FILM HISTORY

The Lumière brothers were the pioneers of showing films and earning money from it. As well as the cinema they also invented the movie poster. Most of their films were only a few seconds to a minute long about everyday French life, "A Meal", "The Sea", "The Arrival of a Train" etc. However these became so famous because no one had ever seen anything like it before. It was the first time a moving image of 'actuality' was being shown and so, the popularity of it increased enormously globally, which led to others stealing their ideas and making their own film. 

These films created in different countries opened up the people's eyes and made them see what was truly happening outside of their country, and the different people who were living their own lives, and their culture. At the time, it was sequences that created 'actuality' through still shots of moving images. Below is a timeline about their progress which led to their success:
